Unlike the previous 29 annual celebrations, there will be no outdoor gathering this year because of COVID-19. Instead, Robinson, Moore, Muhammad, and others will appear in a pre-recorded show that will air from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday on Comcast local Channel 17.
“The whole goal is to try to get people to understand Juneteenth is not a date. It’s what our people went through for 246 years,” said Tommy Meeks, founder of Rockford Juneteenth and host of “Time for a Change,” a weekly Comcast program featuring interviews with people he finds inspirational.
